Department of Neurology
The nervous system consists of the central nervous system, including the cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, and spinal cord, as well as the peripheral nervous system, which extends outward to the trunk, arms, and legs. It also includes twelve pairs of cranial nerves such as the olfactory and optic nerves. Because the nervous system is responsible for many essential body functions, neurologic symptoms can appear in a wide range of forms and severities.

Within neurology, clinical care is often divided according to the affected region of the nervous system and the underlying cause of disease. As a result, the scope of neurologic care is broad and includes diverse diagnostic and treatment approaches for both acute and chronic conditions.

The Department of Neurology evaluates and manages stroke-related conditions such as hemiplegia, altered consciousness, and speech disturbance caused by cerebrovascular disease. It also addresses cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, and cerebrovascular malformations related to brain ischemia or bleeding. In addition, neurology care includes movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, neuromuscular and peripheral nerve disorders associated with weakness, atrophy, and numbness, dementia syndromes related to cognitive decline such as Alzheimer's disease, seizure disorders in adults, headache and pain syndromes, neurologic tumors, and infections of the nervous system including meningitis, encephalitis, and brain abscess.

Through structured evaluation and ongoing medical management, the Department of Neurology aims to diagnose neurologic disease accurately and provide treatment plans that achieve the best possible clinical outcome using appropriate medical therapy and supportive care.
